Sambalpur University was established in the year 1967 as a State University of Government of Odisha to spread higher education in the tribal dominated Western Odisha. It is spread over a sprawling green campus having 670 acres. Besides the campus at JyotiVihar, Burla, there is a constituent college namely, LR Law College established in 1965. The University also run another Engineer College named as Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT) which runs Computer Science and Engineering courses in its campus. This University has a legacy as its alumni are settled in India and abroad at prestigious positions in Government and Private organizations. Some of its alumni are successful entrepreneurs doing their business both in India and outside. The University is already NAAC ‘A’ Grade accredited and is in the process of third cycle of accreditation and we are hopeful of getting better Grade this year. Sambalpur University has 26 Postgraduate Departments imparting education in 32 subjects. The University also runs 09 self-financing programmes in emerging areas catering to the needs of the students. The curricular range of the University is in conformity with the emergent academic needs of the region.
