The University at Jyoti Vihar provides Post-Graduate education in Twenty-seven subjects through Twenty Post-Graduate Departments. The University Post-Graduate Teaching Departments with their year of establishment in chronological order include

The University Post-Graduate Departments offer one-year study Programme for M.Phil Degree, two years study programme for the Degrees of M.A. / M.Sc. / LL.M. / Business Administration / M.Lib & Inf. Science, One-Year P.G. Diploma Course in Computer Science & Application and Diploma Course in Sambalpuri Studies and Three-Year course in M.C.A. and Executive M.B.A.

The P.G.Departments of Chemistry, Life Sciences, History, Economics, Library & Information Sciences and Mathematics have been conferred Autonomous Status by the University. They adopt Semester system based on continuous evaluation. They adopt their own courses of studies.

Eligibility criteria for admission into P.G. course’s

Subject to the specific provisions mentioned against each course, in order to be eligible for admission into any Post-Graduate course, a candidate should have passed Three-year Degree Examination in Arts / Science / Commerce or B.A. / B.Sc / B.Com. Examination of Sambalpur University or an examination recognised equivalent there to by Academic Council, with Honours in the concerned subject or having the concerned subject as a pass (Core) subject with 50% marks in the aggregate at graduation level excluding Foundation and Ancillary Courses.

Candidates, who have appeared the qualifying examinations and the results there of are awaited, are also eligible to apply. However, they have to submit the Provisional Certificate and Marksheet of the qualifying examination within ten days after publication of result of Sambalpur University, or on any date during the Entrance Test schedule i.e. 13.7.2005 whichever is later, otherwise their cases for selection shall not be considered.

Anthropology
  • Graduation (With Honours) in Arts / Science / Commerce or
  • Graduation (Without Honours) in Arts / Science / Commerce with 50% Marks in aggregate.

Preference shall be given to graduate with Anthropology as Honours or pass subject.

Chemistry
  • Honours in Chemistry with Physics or Mathematics as Pass subject(s).(or)
  • Chemistry as a Pass subject with Mathematics or Physics with 50% marks in aggregate.
Earth Science
  • Any Honours in Science Subjects or
  • Chemistry as a Pass subject with Mathematics or Physics with 50% marks in aggregate.
Economics
  • As per General eligibility criteria.
Electronics
  • Honours in Physics / Electronics / Computer Science with Physics / Mathematics / Statistics / Electronics Computer Science as pass subject or
  • B.Sc Electronics Sc. / B.Sc. Electronics / B.Sc. Information Sc. & Technology / B.Sc. Information & Technology
  • Graduates (Without Honours) with any two of the above subjects with 50% marks in aggregate.
English
  • As per general eligibility crieria. or
  • Honours in any Humanities or Social Sciences other than English with 50% marks in aggregate.
Environmental Science
  • Honours in Agricultural Science / Botany / Chemistry / Environmental Sciences / Environmental Engineering / Geology / Life Science / Physics / Zoology. or
  • Having any of the above subjects as pass subject with 50% marks in aggregate.
History
  • As per general eligibility criteria. In addition to the existing eligibility criteria, a candidate who has passed with Honours in an allied subject i.e. (Economics, Pol.Science, Sociology) etc. alongwith History as a pass subject.
Home Science
  • Only women Honours graduates in Arts / Science / Commerce & B.Sc.(Agril) or a pass graduate in Arts / Science, Commerce & B.Sc (agril) with 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Preference shall be given to graduate with Home Science as Honours or Pass subject.

Life Sciences

  • Honours in Botany or Zoology.
  • Botany or Zoology and Chemistry as pass subject with 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Botany and Zoology and any other subject as pass subject with 50% marks in aggregate.

The Candidates are required to mention their Honours subject and the stream (Botany / Zoology) the pass candidates shall opt. in M.Sc. on the top of the application.

Mathematics
  • As per general eligibility criteria (excluding Commerce graduates).or
  • Honours in Statistics with 50% marks in aggregate.
Physics
  • Honours in Physics with any two out of Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science as pass subjects or
  • Physics as Pass subject with any two out of Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science as pass subjects with 50% marks in aggregate.
Oriya
  • As per general eligibility criteria. or
  • Honours in English / Sanskrit / Hindi.
Political Science
  • As per general eligibility criteria.
Sociology
  • Honours in Arts / Science / Commerce. or
  • Graduation (without Honours) in Arts / Science / Commerce with 50% marks in aggregate.
Statistics
  • As per general eligibility criteria (Excluding commerce graduation) or
  • Honours in Mathematics or pass candidates with Mathematics as a subject in B.A. / B.Sc. level with 50% marks in aggregate.
Law (LL.M)
  • Graduation in Law under 5 year integrated B.A.LL.B Course or 3 year LL.B. Course with 50% marks in aggregate.
Library & Information Science
  • Graduation (with Honours) in Arts / Science / Commerce. or
  • Graduation (without Honours) in Arts / Science / Commerce with 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Passed P.G. Diploma Course in Lib. & Inf. Science from the Directorate of Technical Education and Training, Odisha.
Business Administration
  • Honours in any subject. or any Graduate with 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Selection will be based on valid score point secured in any one of the All India Management Aptitude Tests such as MAT / CAT / JMAT / ATMA / XMAT and career mark and group discussion and / or Viva-voce with following weight age. Valid Score point of All India Management Aptitude Test = 50% Career = 30% and Group Discussion and / or Viva-Voce = 20%.
Diploma in Sambalpuri Studies
  • Graduation in any discipline.
Computer Science (P.G.D.C.A.)
  • Honours in Computer Science.
  • Hons. Graduate in Physics / Mathematics / Statistics or
  • Any Graduate with 50% marks in aggregate and having Mathematics at +2 Level.

Provides that the qualifying marks for admission into P.G. Courses prescribed above shall not be insisted upon in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Allotment of Special Papers

The Number of special papers to be floated by a P.G. Department shall be decided by the Teachers’ Council of the concerned Department, and notified by the Head of the Department before the allotment of special papers, preferably at the time of calling for application from students for such allotment. As far as possible, the number of special papers offered by a Department shall be equally divided among the applicants on the principle of preference and consolidated merit list basing on performance in the written test and viva-voce plus career mark, notwithstanding different categories of reservations. Titles of special papers offered for P.G. Courses may be seen at Appendix-A.

Eligibility for admission to M.PHIL courses

Candidates seeking admission into any M.Phil course must have passed Master’s degree Examination of Sambalpur University in the concerned subject or an examination recognised by Sambalpur University as equivalent thereto, having secured 55% marks in the aggregate.

Candidates, who have appeared the qualifying examination and the results thereof are awaited, are also eligible to apply. However, they have to submit the Provisional Certificate and Mark sheet of the qualifying examination within ten days after publication of result of Sambalpur University or on any date during the Entrance Test schedule whichever is later, otherwise their cases for selection shall not be considered.

Provided that the minimum qualifying mark in case of in service candidates shall be 48% marks in the aggregate (50% marks in aggregate for admission into M.Phil course in Library & Information Science).

Explanation - I:
Subject to the minimum qualifying mark, candidates with Master’s Degree in Botany or Zoology or Life Sciences shall be eligible to take admission into M.Phil course in Life Science, with equal number of candidates in Botany and Zoology stream.

Explanation - II:
Subject to the minimum qualifying mark, candidates with Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences or Life Sciences or Botany or Zoology or Bio-Chemistry or Geology or Bio-Physics or Atmospheric Science or Marine Science or Oceanography or M.Tech with Environmental Engineering specialisation shall be eligible to take admission in to M.Phil course in Environmental Science.

Explanation - III:
Subject to the minimum qualifying mark, candidates with Master’s Degree in Mathematics or Statistics or Physics or M.Tech in Computer Science / Electronics shall be eligible for admission into M.Phil Course in Mathematics.

In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the requirement of minimum qualifying marks shall not be insisted upon.

Reservation:

Fifty percent of seats in M.Phil programme shall be reserved for teachers (also applicable to Librarians an Library Professionals (of +2 or Higher Level Colleges) having at least 5 Years of teaching experience and who have been sanctioned study leave of one year for prosecuting the course by their appropriate authorities. They have to be duly relieved by their employer. In case of vacancy under this category, the seats will be filled up by general candidates as per merit list.

Twelve and eight percent of seats in each course are reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes respectively. However, the unfilled seats required for ST candidate will be filled up by admitting SC candidates and Vice-versa. No. admission will be made beyond 30.09.2005 for P.G. Courses and beyond 30.4.2006 for M.Phil and Diploma in Sambalpuri Studies (DSS) courses.

Five percent of the total aggregate marks secured by the candidate shall be added to the aggregate marks in qualifying examination in case of children of Ex-defense personnel and for participants in the Inter University Sports and State Team approved by the National Organisation (provided that in order to eligible for such concession under sportsman category the player concerned should have participated in the respective competitions with two years prior to the date of application for admission).

Five percent relaxation in qualifying marks will be allowed to deputed in-service candidates of the state of Odisha having five or more years of professional experience for admission into M.Lib and Inf. Sc. Courses.

One seat in each department (both in P.G. and M.Phil level combined together) will be reserved for Physical Handicapped candidates. Such candidate is required to produce a certificate from the C.D.M.O. regarding his / her disability for more than 50%. The P.G. Council shall constitute a committee of specialists from V.S.S. Medical College after the receipt of all applications and listing of deformities involved to examine the candidates physically to ascertain their claims. On the basis of their findings admission under PH category may be considered by the respective Heads of the Departments (However, special consideration shall be made in respect of seats to be reserved for P.H. category in such cases where more than one applicant apply for studying any P.G. Course to keep consonance with reservation by 3% of seats as directed by the UGC).

In respect of admission into MBA Course, (i) 20% seats shall be filled up on open competition, (ii) 40% seats shall be filled up out of candidates whose parents are permanent residents of Odisha and (iii) 40% seats shall be filled up out of graduates of Sambalpur University.

Reservation of seats for candidates belonging to SC / ST category shall be calculated category wise accordingly.

The Department of Environmental Science may allot open seats in P.G. Level to the candidates from Physical Sciences stream and from Biological Sciences stream in proportion to the candidate of the respective stream appearing at the Entrance Test.
